| Du Mingxin is one of the most famous composers in 20th century in China. He has produced a good many excellent musical works in various styles. Though piano concerto is not in majority in his works, it holds a key position. As the most distinctive and the highest level of its kinds ----a combination of Piano music with concerto, his No.1 Piano concerto has become a masterpiece of Chinese Piano works due to its vivid folk style and character of modern Piano music.This paper is to make a study on how the composer inherits, develops and innovates the modern west techniques and how he tries to adapt it to works in Chinese style by analyzing the application of the harmonic technique in No.1 Piano concerto in order to give some theory reference to the creative practice of folk style music and the establishment of Chinese harmonic system.The paper is composed of three chapters:Chapter one: Extention of the third-fold harmonic structure and function; An analysis and expatiation of the inheritance and development of the traditional technique of the harmony from the parallel and pile up of three-dimension, the coexisting of same scale step changing tone and nature tone, the tone contrast of same scale step major triad and minor triad four aspects.Chapter two: An enquiry into the structure of harmony of non-third fold and folk harmonic technique;Explains the application and characteristics of the modern technique of chord of fourth-fold and fifth-fold structure, the technique of chord second-fold structure, the technique of chord of the odditional tone, complex function and technique of chord etc. Explains the embodiment of the folk characteristics in music from the structure of chord.Chapter three: The technique of harmonic development and tonal process; Elaborates the linear harmony, sustained note, the mistiness and dissociation of the tonality of theme, the distribution of tonality of second relationship etc. Then explains further the composer's personality which shows the time spirit.
