With the popularity of computer network and multi-media widely used in college English teaching, more and more researchers have shifted their attentions from teacher's teaching to students' learning. As a result of it, all kinds of novel language learning theories and learning teaching models naturally follow. Autonomous learning model based on constructivist language learning theory is becoming a focus of attention. It has been accepted that some learning strategies (e.g. metacognitive strategy) should be applied to the process of autonomous learning. Our school belongs to a pilot university which adopts a new teaching model of combination of classroom lectures and computer-aided autonomous learning. In fact, 2-hour computer-aided autonomous learning each week aims to offer students a space to cultivate their abilities of autonomous learning. The new model is built on modern information technology, particularly network technology, so that English language teaching is free from the constraints of time or place and moves towards students' individualized and autonomous learning. It attaches particular importance to the central role of students in the teaching and learning suited to their individual needs, makes up for the limitations of the conventional classroom teaching. An important indicator of the successful reform of the teaching model is the development of individualized study methods and the autonomous learning ability on the part of students. However, during the 2-year period of teaching practice, the author finds some problems in autonomous learning, such as weak awareness of learners' autonomous learning, low efficiency of English learning in computer room, a decline in students' enthusiasm about computer-aided autonomous learning etc. All these problems are worth thinking and reflecting .The thesis adopts qualitative and quantitative methodology to analyze the...
