| Intonation is beyond language structure. It can reflect the human feelings and attitudes. To some extent, intonation is a label of a person's speech, indicating his or her level and ability to use the language. Once we have learned a language, the intonation of the language will take root in our speech system, which will keep us company for our lifetime. This paper attempts to set foot in the deep pool of intonation. From the viewpoint of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, this paper studies, analyzes and probes into the influence of Vietnamese intonation on learning Chinese intonation in the course of teaching Chinese to Vietnamese students. Methods such as phonetic testing, computer software drawing and comparison analysis have been applied in order to acquire objective results, find out the rules, correct deviations and put them all into the course of teaching. The study has the following findings:A. Like Chinese, Vietnamese is also a language with typical tones, which causes a positive move as well as a negative move in learning Chinese intonation.B.
