A Research On Performance And Edition

As the most original and basic form of interpreting music, the music score conveys the purpose of a composer. An executant must get a first impression of the music through reading the music score, and then recompose it according to his or her own knowledge of music and taste and finally bring it to the public. Thus, great priority must be given to the music score.However, there are so many different kinds of editions in nowadays, so that a chosen standard must be made sure by the user of editions. According to the standard, the executant then can get a conception of the performance by comparison and combination of different editions. This paper mainly focuses on Mozart's Sonata K.333 Chapter One to illustrate the relationship between edition and performance.The paper consists of three chapters.Chapter One is Classification of Editions of Music Scores, which introduces different types of music scores and their features.Chapter Two goes to A Review of Different Editions of Mozart's Sonata, which shows the different chosen of those editions in the nineteenth and twentieth century, on the basis of the standard.Chapter Three contributes to Comparative Analysis of the Different Ways of Scoring, which aims to illustrate how to get the performance conceptions that accord with the right style through different editions from five perspectives.In a word, with a combination of the music itself and the development of the performance style and the musical instruments, the paper tries to analyze the differences in scoring and finally comes to a conclusion that to get an exact performance conception, different editions must be compared and analyzed on the basis of the standard.
