The Historical Evolution Of The Traditional Filial Piety And Their Realistic Value

Filial piety is one of China's traditional moral excellences. "Among all kinds of kindness, filial piety goes first". In the traditional China, the filial piety, which was recognized as the beginning of ethics and the foundation of excellences, was greatly canonized by the Confucianism. It not only the harmony of family and the social stability ,but also influenced people's basic necessities, life style, custom and art. Speaking of its existence, the previous dynasties rulers vigorously maintained the traditional filial piety by means of politics, culture and mentality and the folk society's widespread approval and strengthening, which made the filial piety grow continually and continuously. Filial piety evolved historically, and its connotation has had the partial transformations. The intensity and scope of the pan-filial piety also gradually weakened. The traditional filial piety and the modern filial piety varied greatly. Although the filial generation borders conflict intensively, the filial piety idea reduces and the situation of going old before rich appears nowadays, the filial piety is still an important ethical standard for adjustment in family members' relations. Undergoing the filial piety consciously is a moral rational move. Promoting the moral cultivation by means of the filial piety is simple and outstanding. But the traditional filial piety is numerous and disorderly, and all things mix together. The fit and unfit quality coexists. With the dialectical viewpoint, we must inherit the traditional filial piety but criticize the bad parts to construct the modern new filial piety creatively to make its renascence.
