Although movies and literature are two different kinds of media, and two sorts of arts as well, they are combined together skillfully by the tie of movie adaptation. This article attempts to analyses the movies which are adapted from Lu Xun's novel under various historical background, to look for the changes of the theme between the novel and the movie, the identification of the characters, the addition and deletion of the plots, and the effect of the particular style of the directors, etc. They are not merely due to the development of the movie itself, or the personal experience of the directors. They will fall into the tide of history and bear a strong mark of the trend of social culture unavoidably.This paper includes three parts: introduction, body and conclusion.The first part is the introduction. This part is to discuss the necessity for the movie adaptation of Lu Xun's novel and the methods for the adaptation.The second part is the body. It has been divided into three chapters: Chapter one: it is about the history of the acceptance of Lu Xun's novels and the development of Chinese movies. The development of Chinese movies can be divided into five periods: In 1920s, compared with literature and some other arts, the relationship between movies and the time was much looser. Under the pressure to pursue commercial interests, it presented an obvious feature to avoid political involvement, to seek for the largest profit and to make watching waves. From 1930s to 1940s, although the artistic level of Chinese movie had been increased greatly, it was still commercialized. Lu Xun's novels that focused on the rebuilding of nationality were inconsistent with the audience from the lower class. In 1950s, Chinese movie art had further developed. Commercialization tendency began to draw back, the voice to keep the seriousness of thought and the perfection of art became louder. All these factors lay a firm condition...
