| The issue on translation creativity has been attracting more and more attention with the more comprehensive acknowledgement of translator's subjectivity by translation experts and theorists. Especially creativity in literary translation is discussed most frequently. Such discussions often focus on the macro-perspectives. This is conducive to a better understanding of this issue. But the text analysis on the micro-perspectives is still awaiting further efforts to acquire perceptual knowledge. Therefore, this paper selects three Chinese versions of The Time Machine by H.G Wells as the texts for translation analyses to examine how the translators exert their creativity in the fiction translation. Through the comparison between the Chinese versions we can see the translator's originality shown in the translation practice. This paper is composed of three chapters:Chapter One explains the relationship between creative thinking and fiction translation. The West translation theories such as the Hermeneutic and the cultural theories broaden the translation study field, and make us realize the importance of the creative thinking in the translation practice. Among the thinking modes, the rational thinking helps the translator to grasp the original semantic information and pragmatic connotation, to rewrite the text according to the grammatical rules of the target language. The image thinking contributes to reshape the images of the original distinctively and vividly, make the translation readers enjoy the artistic appeal which the original assumes. The intuition thinking helps the translator to discern the relationship between the concepts and images in a non-rational, subconscious way, then make appropriate transform creatively to meet the cognitive psychology of the translation readers. These three main thinking modes conduce to the production of excellent translation.Chapter Two is the case analyses on the creativity of fiction translation. The discussion consists of three levels: lexical, syntactical and pragmatic. The translator should exert his creativity to change the original part of speech to convey the bearing of the words on the lexical level, to alter the original sentence structures in order to make them tally with the target language on the syntactical level, to transfer the communicative information in order to make the readers get a better understanding on the pragmatic level.Chapter Three discusses the relationship between correspondence and creativity, between fluency, elegance and creativity, between the involvement of the target... |
