Many students and teachers think grammar teaching in middle school is inefficient. The traditional way of grammar teaching was conducted by teachers' diverse and complicated explanation and vast amount of annoying exercises. Due to the abstract feature of grammar rules, students still cannot understand grammar items explained by teachers very well. Hence the students could not use the language in real communication situation grammatically as well. For learners in non-native English speaking countries, grammar is an indispensable part as to the learning context. It is time we did some changes in our classrooms.Functional grammar linguist Halliday's context theory is very important in language teaching. It has a close relation with the language and helps us choose a suitable teaching method.Multimedia is woven combinations of digitally manipulated text, photographs, graphic art, sound, animation, and video elements. We can easily create context in classrooms through this new technology. Many teachers and experts studied in the field of reading, writing, audio-video teaching and have made significant progress.Few people integrate context theory and multimedia language education in grammar teaching.
