This paper, by means of experiment, studies the "language threshold" after passing which content schemata and formal schemata begin to affect Chinese reading comprehension, and after passing the "language threshold", the affecting mechanism of the three schemata to Chinese reading comprehension.We find that, as far as expository writing is concerned, the "language threshold" after passing which content schemata begin to affect reading comprehension contains about 1300 —1400 words and 80 items of grammar, however, during the whole primary period, the "language threshold" after passing which formal schemata begin to function has not reached; and as far as narration is concerned, the "language threshold" after passing which content schemata and formal schemata begin to function contains about 1100—1200 words and 70 items of grammar, and the "language threshold" after passing which formal schemata begin to function might be lower than that of content schemata.The effect of the three schemata on reading comprehension: As far as expository writing is concerned, content schemata's effect is the greatest, then language schemata, and formal schemata's effect is the smallest; and as far as narration is concerned, formal schemata's effect is the greatest, then content schemata, and language schemata's effect is the smallest; and to both expository writing and narration, content schemata are important factor which affects reading comprehension; and after passing the "language threshold", although difficulty doesn't affect the reading comprehension of either expository writing or narration remarkably, it's effect on expository writing is greater.
