This paper reviews the main learning strategy theories and learning strategy-training models from abroad to home at first. Then it investigates the characteristics showed by vocational college students in learning and their application of English learning strategies. On the basis of the above studies, during the teaching process, the author focuses on the study of the effective learning strategy training with Chinese non-English major students in the vocational college, involving the training on meta-cognitive strategies and the possible strategies used to improve English vocabulary and speaking ability which are the most needs according to the survey for higher vocational students. After two-semester training practice, the training model for vocational college students is formed as follows: in order to help students overcome the language learning obstacles and make the students learn English more efficiently, with the help of objective teaching methods, motivation intensification and correct learning concept, the English learning strategy training should highlight meta-cognitive strategy, as well as cognitive strategy and memory strategy trainings. This study takes Oxford' classification of learning strategy as the theoretical framework, and a mixed design(both quantitative and qualitative designs) as the chief research means. Here are the findings: The students in the vocational college who accepted the learning strategy training can use learning strategies more widely and more frequently than those who didn't; The more strategies the students adopt, the better results they get at college. It is believed that this language-learning training fosters students to take an active part in learning activities and develop their autonomy.
