As the major concern of applied linguistics, language teaching and language learning have been the focuses of linguists as well as language teachers. And an increasing number of language teaching methodologies and theories were introduced and discussed worldwide. Among them, there are prominent ones such as Contrastive Analysis, Error Analysis. And the Interlanguage theory proposed in the 60' s provides a better theoretical basis for linguistic study. Meanwhile, learner strategy has become hot issue of the study among linguistic field, which probe a new way of thinking for us.This paper looks back on the prime theories in language learning, including the theoretical bases, main claims and criticisms. And then goes on to analyze errors of the language learners based on Interlanguage theory and learner strategy. The purpose is to find out the reasons of the errors in order to facilitate the teaching. And our final goal is to help language learner attain high English proficiency.The focuses of the research are the errors in the writings of non-English majors and the strategies behind them. The research is conducted by an analysis of 60 writing samples and a follow-up interview. And it shows that all language learners, more or less, make errors, since they are still in a progressive way to reach the target language. Furthermore, the language learners use strategies such as transfer, overgeneralization and avoidance in their writings. And most of the errors are the outcome of transfer, interlingual interference.
