Ma Yu(1123-1183 A D) was born in Ning Hai,Shandong ( Mouping in Yantai city, Shandong province). When he became a student of Wang Chongyang, he replaced his original name with Ma Yu. In history, he was widely known as Danyangzi, namely, the person who embraces the essence of Inner Alchemy. As the oldest disciple of Wang Chongyang, the founder of Complete Perfection Dao, he was listed on the top of Seven Perfect Ones of the North in the history of Daoism.During his life, China was divided into the Han-ruled south and the Mongolian-ruled north, where people witnessed endless battles and then, the birth of Complete Perfection sect. Wang Chongyang experienced heavy setbacks in expanding the religious ideas in Shanxi, his birthplace. Then, he came to Shandong, which was known as a cradle of philosophical Daoism. In Shandong, he converted Ma Yu and other six disciples, and the Complete Perfection sect came into being.After Wang Chongyang's death, Seven Perfect Ones of the North took over the duty of developing the sect, which saw its peak in the period of Qiu Chuji's leadership. In the process, as the oldest one among Seven Perfect Ones, Ma Yu played an important role.
