With the rapid development of systemic functional linguistics that is developed by M.A.K. Halliday first and many other scholars after him, there is an expansion of functional linguistic applications, especially in the aspect of text analysis. From the perspective of functional grammar, the author tentatively explores the analysis of English journalistic texts and their translation, aiming at studying the in-depth journalistic language features and rendering insights into the way of journalistic translation. Quantitative Analysis, a highlight in the thesis, is the author's main research method. The statistical data obtained from quantitative analysis turn out to be of scientificity as well as significance in the practice of translating journalistic texts.Journalistic texts are usually supposed to be the most familiar style of writing in modern society. Hence the study of journalistic texts is relatively common, especially from the lexical and syntactic angles. However quite few attempts have been made in applying functional grammar as the framework of analysis in the research of journalistic texts and journalistic translation. The novelty of the paper just lies in introducing functional linguistics into the study of features of journalistic texts and methods of their translation.With typical features of journalistic language, news reports are in the first flight among various news styles, therefore, news reports will serve as the breakthrough point in studying journalistic texts in this thesis.
