Imre Kertesz is the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature in 2002. This thesis analyzes the irony of Imre Kertesz' s fiction in three paradigms: rhetoric, narration and the clue of irony. The object of research is Imre Kertesz' s three fictions: Fateless , The English flag , The pathfinder . The article was divided into three chapters.The fist chapter analyzes mainly the contrastive description in two elements. The two elements include the contracts between humorous analogy and serious subject, the contracts between people' s appearance and people' s inner being. The chapter discusses Imre Kertesz' s attitude of irony also. The second chapter analyzes the narrative irony, includes the application of first person narrative angle and academic narrative circle. In the chapter, the analysis focuses on the artistic effect of these narrative angles. The third chapter discusses the clues of discovering irony, which is composed of two aspects. At first, there are some clues of discovering irony in the fiction. Then the second aspect analyzes Imre Kertesz' s state of survive. The thesis emphasizes these clues to probe into fiction' s irony art more roundly and more thoroughly.The conclusion of article is that the contrastive description and rhetorical irony construct a tension structure that expands the image scope of reading and extends the aesthetic space of the fictions. These clues of discovering irony are the key of exploring irony correctly.
