The Research On The Folk Decoration Design Art Found In The Belief Of The MaZu Goddess

The research on the folk decoration design art found in the belief of the MaZu Goddess is the fundamental part of the work on the MaZu Goddess culture. So far, very few researchers have paid their attentions to this particular field. This article reveals the fruits of the primary research into the folk decoration design art in the belief of the MaZu Goddess. With a combined use of the research methods in such fields as Science of Design Arts, Sociology and Folklore, the author went on a great number of trips to conduct the on-the-spot investigations into every aspect of the MaZu Goddess culture, especially the leading representative MaZu temples and took many valuable photos, in a hope to fill in the gap of this particular research field.This article focuses on such topics as the shape-taking and evolvement of the belief of the MaZu Goddess, the folk decoration design art found in the belief of the MaZu Goddess, the decoration design art of the MaZu temple compound, the social functions of the folk decoration design art found in the MaZu Goddess culture and the final part-- conclusion. With the help of the valuable photos and through the fruitful research and the deep discussion, the author tries to paint a clear picture for the readers so that they will have a better understanding of the folk decoration design art in the belief of the MaZu Goddess. The aesthetic creation of the folk decoration design art in the belief of the MaZu Goddess co-exists with other functions. From the wooden carvings, stone carvings, brickcarvings together with the sacrificial utensils and offerings of all sorts, we can clearly perceive the trend in the aesthetic design and the ideological connotation of the decoration design art in the belief of the MaZu Goddess.
