The historical series of many nations include The Bibliography of Many Nations ,New Bibliography of Many Nations, which were published in Ming Dynasty, and The Bibliography of Many Nations in Eastern Zhou Dynasty ,which was published in Qing Dynasty. In all historical romances, they are considered to be the classic works of Yu Yi Xin Shi.Feng Menglong,Cai Yuanfang and Chen Jiru, as the author or commenter of these historical series, are all key figures in the contest of chronicle and fiction. In all, these historical series have great influence in the developing process of the concept of chronicle and fiction. The research method of this thesis is the comparison of text and analysis of authors, and the thesis divides the historical series of many nations into three developing stages, The Bibliography of Many Nations,New Bibliography of Many Nations and The bibliography of Many Nations in Eastern Zhou Dynasty. While comparing the differences of the three stages, and analyzing the influence of the author and background on the concept of chronicle, the study reveals the process from fiction to chronicle. The change on the concept of chronicle in the historical series of many nations, reflects the trend from folktales to masterpieces. Meanwhile, this trend also exists in the development of other historical series. The first part is the introduction of the thesis, on the Ping Hua of Yuan Dynasty as the source of historical series of many nations, and the development of it, while introducing the concept of chronicle and Yu Yi Xin Shi. Part one, part two and part three is on the three development stages of the historical series of many nations. In part one, I analyze the special status of the author and background and its influence on the writing of the work, proposing the two main fields of the writing modes: inheritance of the folktale and the imitation of The Romance of Three Kingdoms, and discover the conflict on the concept of chronicle and the practice of writing.Part two analyses the special status of Feng Menglong as an elite and the author of fiction and its influence on the writing of New Bibliography of Many Nations, putting forward the reinforcement on Yu Yi Xin Shi and fiction, especially the development of restating and respecting facts. Part three analyses the commenting principle of Cai Yuanfang on advising current affairs by mentioning the past, praising the good and criticizing the bad, and the concept of chronicle on historical series. Part four is the conclusion of the thesis. First, I put forward the opposed opinion on the traditional comment of the historical series of many nations from the dimension of individual text, and give an objective opinion on it through the comparison of The Romance of Three Kingdoms. Second, from the dimension of the wholly development history, comparing the author, I propose the trend from folktale to history literature.
