| The eye tracker was used to study the relationship between reading achievements and personality in English fast reading with 48 sophomore participants. Research one investigated the relationship between eye movements and reading achievements, research two investigated the relationship between eye movements and personality, and final discussion was taken depending on former two research results to analyze the relationship between reading achievements and personality. The logic is: if eye movements affect reading achievements, and such eye movements are related to personality, then personality is supposed to affect reading achievements. The results of research one showed that eye movements did have relationship with reading achievements. The high and low score groups had significant differences in aspects of average fixation duration, first fixation duration, saccade speed, saccade count and pupil change, which means eye movements affected reading achievement. The results of research two showed that eye movements had relationship with personality. The bipolar dimensions of S-N, T-F, P-J separately showed significant differences on eye movements. S-N had significant differences in saccade speed and first fixation count, T-F had significant differences in pupil size and first run dwell time, and P-J had significant differences in first fixation duration and saccade speed, which means personality affected eye movements.Linking the results of research one and two, we drew a conclusion that reading achievements had relationship with dimensions of S-N and T-F. Under the condition of this study, Ss had higher score than Ns and Fs higher than Ts. |
