| During the period of Qianlong(1736-1795), Sino-Burma relations were complicated. At the beginning, Toungoo(1531-1752) sent envoys with tribute to China. And then diplomatic relations between China and Burma was established. But since Toungoo was replaced by Alaungpaya (1752-1885), the contradictions appeared and sharpened. In 1776, Sino-Burma War set out, which lasted for about four years. After the war, the relations between the two countries didn't normalize because of different understanding of Kaungton Treaty. Nothing changed until Bodawpaya became the king. He adjusted the policy toward China, and presented tribute to China in 1798. Two years later, Burma became a state tributary to China.The policy toward Burma during this period was very important. It imposed a tremendous influence upon Sino-Burma relations, acting as the keynote of the relations. The focal point of the study is to examine and analyze the causes, contents and influences of the policy. |
