A Study On "Mei" And The Phrase Of "Mei"

Regarding"three-plane"theory as guidelines, we analyze Demonstrative Pronoun"mei"and the phrase of"mei"on different plane of syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The full thesis has three main parts.First, the summary of studying on"mei"and the phrase of"mei". The predecessors'study on"mei"and the phrase of"mei"is scattered, difficult to sum up and has a lot of repetitions, so we list the study of"mei"on syntax and semantics, and of the special sentence types which conclude"mei"on some Modern Chinese teaching materials, some works and some papers.Second,"mei + substantive". This part is the main part of the thesis. It has five aspects:"mei + classifier","mei + noun","mei + time-word","mei + yi + NP/VP"and a individual analysis of the phrase of"mei". In the part of"mei + classifier", first, according to the predecessors'study of minor sort of classifier, we classificate classifier into compound classifier and pure classifier. Then we classificate pure classifier into thing-classifier, movement-classifier and time-classifier. Second, we analyze that in the minor sort of classifier, which can enter the phrase of"mei+ classifier"and which can not. We also analyze the features of the phrase of"mei + classifier"on syntax and semantic.In the part of"mei + noun", we think the noun which can enter the phrase is monosyllable basically and has some natures of classifier.In the part of"mei + time-word", we think the time-word which can enter the phrase is just three groups time-words which express seven days a week. Even we insert classifier between"mei"and time-word, some time-words also can't enter the phrase of"mei + time-word".In the part of"mei + yi + NP/VP", we think"mei + yi + NP/VP"is the result of"mei + yi + classifier + NP/VP"which omits classifier. The NP which can enter the phrase of"mei + yi + NP/VP"is noun or the noun-phrase, which can be monosyllable, double-syllable or multi-syllable. The VP which can enter the phrase of"mei + yi + NP/VP"are verb or the verb- phrase. The verb usually is double-syllable. The verb-phrase is usually simple and doesn't have quantity and classifier.In the part of the individual analysis of the phrase of"mei", we analyze the differences between"mei ren"and"mei ge ren"on different plane of syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. And we explain the reasons that cause the differences.
