Yutang Lin was the first Chinese who translated the English word HUMOUR in to"you mo"in Chinese. He gave great effort to the endeavor of humorous genre of literature, and was regarded as one of the pioneers in its field. This article is based on the essay works of Lin as research data, the writer applied epagoge as research method to analyze Lin's unique humor, on both aspects of writing materials and rhetoric, by reading a large quantity of his works and establishing data models, the results went in coincidence with Lin's philosophy, religion and literary theories.From the point of writing materials, Lin has his unique view. Lin is very good at catching the details, usually not serious nor meaningful, or even the trifles that others could hardly notice, and they became sources of illumination to the readers once had been composed by Lin.
