Form the affairs beginning in Loochow, "subordinate-system" went to the verge of collapse due to the external shocks. After that, China over Korea's suzerainty was also severely challenged. To safeguard China-Korea relations, Qing government persuaded Korea to trade with the American in early 1980s. From then on ,Western countries flowed into Korea in large quantities, which aggravated the situation in 1980s. This thesis choose Shenbao's report on Korea from 1881 to 1893 as study object to find out what strategy the editors advanced to protect Korea, what characteristic the strategy is, what the attitude towards the current situation. The whole study is divided into three parts: Introduction, Text and Conclusion. The first part introduces the. current studies on this subject as well as the significance and the content of this paper. The second part consists of three chapters.Chapter 1, elaborate the important event which affected the relationship between China and Korea that "Shenbao" concentrated on. It's Mainly manifested in three aspects : First, concentrated on the process of trade, advanced the strategy in trade. Second, during the period of negotiations with Japan, "Shenbao" concentrated on the process of "Im-ou military revolt" and "the December incident of 1884",advanced the idea of making peace with Japan. Third ,during period of negotiations with Russia, "Shenbao" published a large number of anti-Russian statements, reflecting strong anti-Russian consciousness.Chapter 2, analyzes the character of the strategy, that is hovering between "constraint" policy and the "independence" reforms. The cause of the reasons are mainly in the following aspects : First, China was too weak to protect North Korea alone. Second ,people had illusions towards the western countries, hoping to use the contradictions among them to protect Korea. Third, they not only worried about the threat from neighbors, but also worried about the Western's intruding. "Befriending the distant enemy while attacking a nearby enemy" and "Befriending the nearby enemy while attacking a distant enemy" thinking appeared in turn. Fourth, they have certain understanding to the essence of the great powers, asked to solve the problem through reformation of China and Korea. According to the dissimilarity of the situation ,those strategy always hovering between "constraint" policy and "independence" reforms.Chapter 3, evaluate the strategy. Advocating trade Complied with the tide of history. Asking to protect Korea which not only showing willingness to safeguard the interests of china but also to help Korea resist foreign aggression. It does make sense in these two aspects, however, the defects are also very obvious. "Constraint" strategy reflected that they did not yet fully understand the aggressive policy of the western countries. They have great-power mentality, which neglect of the Korean people's independence aspirations. Showing strong "Russia threat" thinking , underestimated the threat of Japan. Conclusion: Despite the decline of great power status, great-power mentality is still deep-rooted. when the "subordinate-system" went to the verge of collapse, Shenbao put forward "Protect Korea strategy" be subjected to this kind of mental state domination. Owing to the crack-up of Chinese real strength, the rise of independent thinking and great power's essence for extend, neither "constraint" policy nor "independence" reforms can obstruct the destiny of "subordinate-system". Despite some failures, we can't demand too much by the taste of today. Shenbao delivered the information in time which developed the function of the public's media "the information medium", the leading article responded at that time the crisis idea of some people, having important research value.
