Probe Into The Feasibility Of College English Teaching In Large Class In Independent Colleges

With the rapid development of the Chinese national economy and the unprecedented concern to education, the number of Chinese college students has maintained rapid growth and the shortage of college English teachers has become increasingly obvious. Under the specific national conditions, many independent colleges' teachers gradually have to teach English in a large class. As a result, there are many analyses and thesis about English teaching in large class. Take Hubei University Zhixing College as an example, the author analyzed the feasibility of English teaching in large class in independent colleges and offered clear-aimed suggestions.Besides the preface, appendix and acknowledgement, the thesis is divided into five parts:The first part: This part is a panorama of the English teaching in independent colleges. Take Hubei University Zhixing College as a good example, it introduced the basic information of English teaching and the problems existed in English teaching.The second part: The thesis explains the large class definitions and teaching mode, pointing out features of the large class teaching mode. Then, it also introduced in details about the development and research of English teaching in large class.The third part: In this part, the author compared the large class teaching with teaching in small classes. With the research work of experts, the author analyzed the feasibility of college English teaching in large class from five aspects such as economic fundamentals, teaching requirements, teaching methods, teaching staff and students. Then, the author got a conclusion: At present, it is feasible to teach English in large class in independent colleges. This part is the most important one in this thesis.The fourth part: This thesis used the English teaching reform of Hubei University Zhixing College as a successful example to illustrate the feasibility of college English teaching in large class in independent colleges.The fifth part: The thesis analyzed the advantages and weakness of college English teaching in large classes. Then, the author made some practical suggestions. In this way, enhance the feasibility of college English teaching in large class in independent colleges.
