Now the Chinese education has suffered the unprecedented question and criticism. The tide of the Chinese education reform is continuous. Many educationalists and Chinese teachers who come from the first teaching give many suggestions and plans. And the "Broad Chinese" is the topic which is repeatedly mentioned by the people. But the "Broad Chinese" is one of the main characteristics that the ancient Chinese education has.The purpose of the article is finding the concrete cultural reasons why it becomes the "Broad Chinese" by the analysis of the ancient "Broad Chinese", and pointing out its advantages and disadvantages,success and failure to find another kind of way for the contemporary Chinese education reform.First, the article describes the "phenomenon" about the ancient" Broad Chinese". On the one hand, the ancient Chinese education has the strengthened comprehensiveness from the knowledge stratification. First, the initial teaching materials, for example, San zi jing,Bai jia xing,Qian zi wen and so on may be called as the concentrated encyclopedia; Second, both the Confucianists classics and the "Chinese national culture" are comprehensive. On the other hand, the ancient Chinese education is a body hold several jobs. It not only values the comprehensive training including listening,saying,reading and writing, but also has multiplicity in its educational function and the teaching methods.Then, the article analyses the cultural reasons which give girth to the "Broad Chinese" of ancient China comprehensively. It is thought that it related with the self-sufficient economy of the small-scale peasants decided by the geographical environment in ancient China, and with the specific productivity level, the characteristics of the social labor division and the unique nature of the Chinese characters .Finally, the article has discussed the modern contemplation about the ancient "Broad Chinese". Examined by the modern vision, it's historic limitations is obvious, for example ,the one-sided emphasis on the "articles by everywhere along the 'Dao'",separation of the oral language and the written language,teaching given more attention to than studying and singleness of the form and restrictiveness of content of the imperial examination and so on. And as the cultural environment of the contemporary Chinese education has changed, we can not go back now. However, there are many reasonable "kernels" and a lot of useful experience in the ancient "Broad Chinese", for example, it always stresses the comprehensive concept of Chinese,the methods of reading and writing training and the initial teaching materials like "encyclopedia" and so on, which are all valuable cultural resources and can be used as the object of reference in Chinese education now. It can also supply the current Chinese education reform with a possible way.
