Verb is the core of language. The difference of verb form between English and Chinese has been among the main factors which hold back the improvement of Chinese students in English study. Compared with English, Chinese do not have external means for verbs - Chinese verbs remain the original form whenever they are predicates or non-predicates, while English verb form shall have all kinds of changes in person, number, time, tense, mode, aspect and voice. The appreciation of all these differences can greatly help the Chinese students in English learning."Verb-centered view" has risen to a greater height in contemporary linguistic research. Many researchers hold the opinion that verbs, the most complicated element in English, to a large extent, decide the sentences. The appropriate and accurate form of verbs means the complete and accurate communication of information, which is the dominate function of language.During his 11 years of teaching the author has found that one of the greatest problems in both teaching and learning English is verb. Due to the incompetence of knowledge, neither students in secondary school nor in college can master the correct form of verbs in English, which does not appear in Chinese correspondingly. The changes mentioned previously have not come into their system. As a result, Chinese students often make mistakes in verbs, either the inappropriate predicates or the confusion between predicate and non-predicate, which usually lead to Chinglish. To solve this matter, the author began his research in resolution of verb form in English teaching and learning with quantity of reading of other researches mixed in his own practice in 11 years' teaching, then came to a construction in verb form, and finally made this thesis. This thesis consists seven sections.Section one is the introduction, which analyzes the practice of English verbs in secondary schools and colleges, raises the measures for that and introduces the purposes of this research. Section two is the bibliography, which mainly introduces the researches both in China and abroad. Sections three to five share the constructions of English verb form which was raised by the author. Section six is the experiment and the data analysis. With scientific methods, rigorous approaches, the experiment was conducted among a hundred and fifty four college students, and then came to the conclusion that the construction is effective in improving the appropriate use of verb forms in English practice. The last section is the conclusion. The author reviews the whole thesis briefly and draws a conclusion compendious. Some unsolved problems are raised as well.
