It focuses on these questions about the literary sense, special expoundation about the ideas of appreciation of beautiful, the criticism to the literary workers and the enlightenment of the critical theories to the present age of Shen Congwen.It is divided into four chapters:The first chapter mainly discusses the literary sense of Shen Congwen. His literary sense was original and had universal meanings. He considered literature as a science about people and initiated the literary freedom with all his efforts.The second chapter mainly expounds his attentions to the literary workers which is the restraint to the authors and the critics. He thought that a author should firstly keep plentiful spirits and secondly foster good psychical abilities. His remindness to the author was aimed at the inherent level of the literary creation. In addition,he advanced a good many demands to the critics. The key to all of the suggestions was dealing with the relations between the critics and the authors and the readers.The third chapter analyses the ideas of beauty. He thought the nature, life and control were beautiful. It was related to his inheritation to the classical cultares. He was not conservative and had true ideas to beauty.The fourth chapter is the enlightenment of his literary critical ideas to the present age. "Reason" was a word which penetrated the literary criticism of Shen Congwen. In the practice of literary criticism, he didn't forget to consider the criticism as creation. He thought the participation of the feelings about the critical as the necessary condition. Meanwhile he had obviously vigilant mentality in the question between the literature and commerce. These theories had important enlightenmental functions to the contemporary critics.In a word, the dissertation combs the special theories the careful reading on the manuscript of Shen Congwen. Although there were some ideas laking of objective nature in criticism focusing on the literature, he kept the critic's duty. He had the spirits giving the literature essential guard which was the author's and the critic's model.
