So-called Children's Literature, also named juvenile literature. The special literature, according to thecharacter of difference of readership's age(such as character of body andmind, character of thought, character of socialization), can also be divided into threelevels specifically:juvenile literature, childhood literature and infancy literature. It'sbasic symbol of existence should be self-consciousness of creation, definitude ofcreative purpose and the creative work should also agree with children's readingtaste. It's maturity should present its special native character and correspondence toreality. On one side Children's modern literature in China is the necessary outcome oflong-term development of Chinese literature itself, which agree with law ofdevelopment of society which develops from inferiority to superiority, from simplicityto complexity; On the other side, located in the country whose modern Children'sliterature occurred late, which would inevitably get the foreign aid during its process ofoccurrence. During this process, from the discovery of individual to the discovery ofchildren, till standard of children come into being and by the end the ideology ofchildren's standard correspond to the reality, which construct a basic clue. Theforerunners which burdened the mission in history, work out their indelible contributionin different period in history.Firstly, Liang Qichao and Huang Zunxian etc in late Qing Dynasty unhinge theprelude to discover children during the process of advocating "revolution in poetrycircles" and "revolution in novel circles". Of course, what Liang Qichao and others dedicated to is enlightenment in political area, not the discovery of individual, butduring the process of their struggling for "melioration of masses governing" and"renewal of the people", what they did impersonally promoted discovery ofchildren. During this period, Some predecessors such an Zeng Zhimin, ShenXingong, Li Shutong and some periodicals such as Monthly newspaper ofkids, Enlightening transaction all contributed to the discovery of children.Just before May 4th Movement, driven by academicians in late Qing Dynasty, somepredecessors such as Sun Yusiu, Lu Xun, Zhou Zuoren, Guo Moruo, Chen Dusiu, Hu Shiseparately contributed greatly to the compilation, translation, theory even thecreation, especially Zhou Zuoren's Literature of human which undrew the prelude thatChinese literature paid attention to human and paid further attention to women andkids. In fact, children's literature in China had existed impersonally during thisperiod, moreover had some self-consciousness of "children's standard" to a certainty. But the works of children's literature mostly came from translation from west countriesor adaptation from the works in ancient China, self-creation in deed, especially theworks mature in thought and art hadn't appeared. It's just a necessary brewing periodfor children's literature to be mature. On the basic of preparation before May 4th Movement, some valiant generals inMay 4th Movement of new literature such as Mao Dun, Zheng Zhenduo, Bing Xin, YeShengtao and Zhao Jingshen also contributed greatly to the domain of creation andtheory of children's literature. They explored a way featured with nation's character inthe theme, types of literature and configuration of works, especially after Ye Shengtao'sA jack of straw came out, it achieved the goal to combine creative thought ofchildren's standard with the way of realism perfectly, It marked that the modernchildren's literature in China had been mature.
