This thesis intends to make a tentative study of the English versions of Su Shi's ci-poetry. The introduction gives a brief account of Su Shi and the elevation of the Ci Genre, then a literature review about the past studies on the translation of Su Shi's ci-poetry, and the application of the principle of"three beauties", drawing forth the main text of the thesis. The thesis is divided into three chapters: analyzing, illustrating and practicing of the principle of"three beauties".The first part is the theoretical framework of Xu Yuanchong's translation principle of"three beauties", claiming that the more one achieves in practicing the principle in the translation process, the more original feelings he will preserve. The second chapter makes a specific comparison from the angle of sense, sound and form respectively, putting emphasis on images, metaphors, rhythm, rhyme, etc, which incorporate the principle of"three beauties".The third chapter is a check on the practice of the principle. The original is Su Shi's most famous piece Memories of the Past at Red Cliff to the tune of Nian Nu Jiao. The author gives a comprehensive analysis on phonetic, lexical and discourse level. The last part of the thesis is the conclusion.
