Piano accompaniment course, as a practical professional discipline in Higher Normal School, its importance, however, has been overlooked by students and by even the school itself. It is also proved that the consequent of the piano accompaniment teaching is barely satisfied. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze and study the course with a view to improving the current situation of piano accompaniment in higher normal school. Based on large amount of literature researches together with the learning and understanding of the author, it is explained in detailed in the thesis,"What is the piano accompaniment?","How important is it?"and"What is the situation of its progress and its problem nowadays in the higher normal school. Through theoretical analysis together with examples, it was pointed out, that various qualities are necessary for a better performance of piano accompaniment, namely: good skillfulness in piano playing, a solid theoretical foundation, the accumulation of practice, a fast Sight-reading, good ability of creative thinking and collaboration.Using questionnaire survey and interviews with teachers, it was further analyzed that the understanding, the attitudes and views of the curriculum presently by the staff concerned with the issue. It provides thereby a basis for strengthening the curriculum and for improving a reform of it, and will become great reference in the area.Based on the discussion above, and focused on how to strengthen piano accompaniment course in the higher normal school, it was fully analyzed in the kernel part of the thesis. Firstly, from both two sides, existing scores accompaniment and vamping, the training goals of the piano accompaniment courses are clarified. Secondly, in respect of arrangement of the piano accompaniment course, it was pointed out that, besides emphasis with teaching of the relative courses such as harmony and musical form, the connection between piano accompaniment and other courses such as vocal music, solfeggio, and theory of the musical culture should also be improved. Finally, a specific exposition was provided in the thesis for the organization of the class, teaching materials selection, the teaching arrangement, and the evaluation method of the courses.
