Perfectionism is a personality variable. There has been a particular focus on the negative correlates and consequence of perfectionism. Recent emerging researchers suggest that perfectionism not always and uniformly leads to difficulties for the individual and begun to distinguish between two distinct types of perfectionism—adaptive and maladaptive forms. Based on it, 4 aims were fulfilled in the study: to revise MPS-F; conforming to Hewitt's theory to develop 3 dimensions perfectionism scale; through comparing two perfectionism scales to validate the distinction between adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism; to examine relation between perfectionism and mood health. 175 college students filled scales. The results showed that:1. Revised MPS-F has 4 dimensions,29 items. Four dimensions are "concern over mistakes and doubt about actions","personal standards","organization","parental stress". Reliabilities of 4 dimensions are from .67 to .83.2.Three dimensions perfectionism scale has 25 items and its Dimensions are "self-oriented perfectionism","other-oriented perfectionism","socially prescribed perfectionism" whose reliabilities ranged from .77 to .88.3. Two higher-order factors were extracted through analyzing two perfectionism scales. These two factors could be interpreted as adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism. Adaptive perfectionism involves "socially prescribed perfectionism","other-oriented perfectionism","concern over mistakes and doubt about actions"> "parental stress" ; maladaptive perfectionism involves "personal standards","self-oriented perfectionism","organization".4. The sum score of perfectionism was related to negative affect and depression positively and unrelated to positive affect; adaptive perfectionism was positively related to positive affect and unrelated to negative affect and depression; maladaptive perfectionism showed positive correlation with negative affect and depression and unrelated to positive affect.
