| Language communication is a process of information transmission. Because of various factors, during the process of sending and recieving, the information would probably be changed in a certain way. However, language communication is not as simple as information transmission for misunderstanding always happens. In our daily life ,misunderstandings bring us a lot of troubles as well as some special communication effects.The study should be first started from the communication participants, thus we can figure out the psychological factors which may cause misunderstanding so as the formation system and methods of avoidance.According to Relevance Theory, communicative device can only enable the communication but cannot assure the success of it. The reason is that speaking cannot be equal to direct transmission of communicative purpose but only can make the purpose more obvious to the participants of the communication. During the communication process, the speakers tend to show the meaning while the listeners tend to ratiocinate it. Therefore, this enables misunderstanding. To start with, this essay describes the phenomenon of misunderstanding, and then divides this phenomenon into several categories, discusses the causes and reasons and finally searches for some methods to solve the problem.This essay consists of five chapters.Chapter one is the introduction of the whole essay. In this chapter, the author explains the significance of this study.Chapter two focuses on the definition of misunderstanding. The author attempted to give a definition of misunderstanding according to relevance theory. Therefore, misunderstanding is not only purely wrong decoding but it has something to do with cognitive context, speaker's intention and reciever's ratiocination, etc.Chapter three analyses the psychological and cognitive factors which cause misunderstanding: social psychological factor, cultural psychological factor and individual psychological factor.Chapter four is about the role relationship of the communicator so as the role consciousness. It tells readers the inequality in reorganize, form and solve problem. Finally according to relevance theory, some suggestions were made on how to avoid misconception.Chapter five is the summary. |
