The Chinese have been immigrating in the United States in large-scale for over 150years since 1850s. During this period, Chinese family has undergone a profound change, From the "split household" family in early Chinatown to native Chinese family appearing in the 1920s, the normalization gradually of Chinese family after World War II, and modern Chinese family that appeared after the Immigration Act 1965.This paper is divided into three chapters.The chapter I mainly reviews two types of Chinese American families before World War II. One is the "split household" family . Another is the native Chinese family in Chinatown appearing since the 1920s, which is also called the small producer of Chinese family.The Chapter II focuses on the changes and the characteristics of Chinese family after World War II. Repealed the Chinese Exclusion Act during World War II and promulgated the new immigration policy after 1965 have promoted the growth of native Chinese American, brought a large-scale Chinese immigrants. Because of the improvement of Chinese economic status, the deepening which the society merged, Chinese family has moved towards the road of normalization, and marched towards the modern family.The change of family structure demonstrate various complicated shapes, which is a result of structural factors (Social, legal, political, economic) and cultural factors between the complex interaction. So in this frame chapter III, from American. immigration policy to China, Chinese American economy, Chinese acculturation, analyzes the reasons of mode changes of Chinese American family after World War II.Through combing the development history of Chinese family for more than 150 years systematically, we see the mode of Chinese family is changed several times, restricted by the structural factor and cultural factor. And no matter structural factor and culture factor are all to go through the constant change, so Chinese family is the dynamic entity that experiences changes and adapts continuously. Change and adaptation made when Chinese family has faced the domestic and foreign environment will exist in foreseeable future all the time.
