The Study On The Form Of Post-colonialism

Post-colonialism is culture criticism with a strong deconstruction, which transform the center of criticism study from the text form to culture politics. This term from the first world has caused a wide concern and arguments since its first entry into china in the end of 1980s and the beginning of 1990s. Taking post-colonialism as a concrete criticism form is to examine the aspects such as the discourse, mode, ideas as a system, and to its implications on culture criticism and study of our country.The thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is to examine and analyze some concepts about the western post-colonialism. Through the acknowledgement of this form of the scholars from home and abroad, it points out that western post-colonialism is a cultural theory and practice with a strong destruction and an aim to make come true a dialogue between different cultures from the aspects of race, sex and class, which is conducted by some minority people with strong self-awareness standing at the edge of society. It is concured to us understand the basic value system, ways of thinking and critical discourse through the examination of the source of post-colonialism. The thesis belives that materialistic marxism, anthropology, cultural hegemony, theory of power and discourse, ddeconstructionism and'the Other'have provided fertile soil for post-colonialism.The second chapter is devoted to examine and study the main theory discourse of western post-colonialism, such as oritentalism, cultural imperialism, national allegory of the third world, study of the principle of kindness and vice and subalturn, cultural intermarriage and boundaries of identity. With this foundation, the thesis review on some theoris briefly.The third chapter of the thesis is to make a summary of the development and situation of western post-colonialism after its entry into China. The thesis tries to devide the spread and study in China into three three phases, i.e. intiation, explration and expanding, based on three approaches taken by western post-colonialism, they are: first, translation of the theory of western post-colonialism; second, the stuy, discussion and exploit of the theory of western post-colonialism; last, the practice of post-colonialism in the native land. The thesis gives brief analysis about the achievements and shortcomings in each phase.The last chapter points out that our study is still on the level of the discourse criticism, and has not come deep inside of it after its discussion the status quo of post-colonialism after its entry into China. In this chapter, the implicaiton for our culture criticism and study are focused on. The thesis argues that the narrowness of horizons, pure post-colonialism and nationalism are the main problims in the practice of post-colonialism.
