Commentary On Eagleton's Textual View Under The Visual Threshold Of Cultural Poetics

Terry Eagleton(1943--) is a prestigious western Marxism literary theorist and a literary critic in contemporary England. He absorbs the theory resource of such thinkers as Williams, Althusser, Macherey, Benjamin, Brecht and constructs the ideological criticism in the scope of history culture by means of reinterpreting the concept "ideology" critically. He points out that such "pure" literary theory is an academic myth. This thesis draws up the angle of text ideology production and political criticism practice, scans Eagleton in the context of linguistics turning and culture turning and perceives the characteristics of Eagleton's textual view under the visual threshold of cultural poetics. Meanwhile it will band ideology production and text political criticism practice together for bidirectional elucidation. Thereby it can enrich and reflect unique learning individuality of Eagleton as the banner of English "new left" in the camp of modern western Marxism.It will draw the broad-brush outline of learning career, study actuality, study angle and study thought in introduction part. The thesis will come to carry on the commentary on Eagleton's aesthetic ideology theory in the following three parts. Part one will analyze and evaluate Eagleton's literature hypostasis from four aspects, namely, linguistics background of text science, animadverting Formalism criticism and vulgar Marxism criticism, constructing aesthetic ideology criticism. Part two systematically expatiates Eagleton's text theory from three aspects: text production, text's "comparatively independence" and the value attribute and dialectic analysis. Eagleton constructs theory of ideology production on the liasis of text and puts forward the idea that text is diction production of multi-ideology. He scientifically demonstrates text boundary and dialectically analyzes the value attribute of text aesthetic ideology and draws the conclusion that the realization process of text value is the process of "ideology reproduction" by text, reader and critic. Part three is the practice of textual-political criticism. The three articles that are selected for political criticism practice translate the inanition nonfigurative theory into sensibility material text. It not only practically validates his theory contribute, but also further elucidates related theoretic problem, In conclusion part, the thesis will briefly expatiate practical meaning that Eagleton's text thoughts will perform in our contemporary literary theory and literary criticism with national characteristics.
