Recently, the pursuit of academic help in learning has been greatly attended to by educational psychologists. More and more relevant theories and researches appear as an adaptive strategy to facilitate the learning. However, with difficulties in the classroom, some students often imitate others or give themselves up quickly. The present study is to investigate the relation of self-conception of academic achievement, goals and pursuit of academic help from the perspective of learning motivation, so that we can help students to become active learners effectively.493 Ss from three grades in 3 middle schools, 222 boys and 271 girls, were selected in the investigation, answering a questionnaire during their normal class periods. Academic Help Scale, Self Description Questionnaire:(SDQ-â…¡) and Achievement Goals Scale were used. The result shows that:1. When getting in math problems, junior high school students used more adaptive help-seeking than the dependent and avoiding help-seeking.2. Gender difference in help-seeking is obvious, with girls more prone to seeking help than boys, and boys more likely to adaptive avoidance of help-seeking. Grade difference in help-seeking is obvious, with grade one students most likely to seek help. However, junior grade three students are most likely to adaptive executive help-seeking or avoidance of help-seeking. There is a significant difference between students from the country and those from the city, with village students more likely to seek help from teacher.3. The study of junior high school students' self- conception of academic achievement demonstrates that: the students of grade one and two are remarkably higher than those of grade three; city students are remarkably higher than village students. There is no significant difference between sexes in the self-conception of academic achievements.4. The study of junior high school students' achievements shows that: the boys' performance-avoidance goal is significant higher than girls'; the learning goal of grade one is significant higher than that of grade two; the students'achievement goals of grade one is the lowest; city students' performance-approach goal is significant higher than village students'.5. Self-conception of academic achievements is positively related to achievement goals. Achievement goals and self-conception of academic achievement are positively related to academic help-seeking.6. Path analysis shows that the model is an acceptable. The model indicates that the self-conception of academic achievement influences academic help-seeking directly, while self-conception of academic achievement influences academic help-seeking indirectly by achievement goals.
