The Research Homophone Of Ci Tong

This paper is based on the viewpoint of historical development of homophone, and studies the material of homophone from several episodes in Ci Tong in the effort to associate the studies of homophone in Ancient Chinese and Modern Chinese.The first part of this paper displays the results of studies on homophone by experts. Then the second part explores the relationship between certain language phenomenon such as homophone, yiwen and the variant characters. The exploration helps formation of the definition of homophone. The third part investigates the words compiled by Ci Tong, and, according to the definition of the words, formulates specific and applicable judgment principles. Under the guidance of the judgment principles, the paper judges the homophone from the first two episodes in Ci Tong. Also the paper describes the concept of Zhu Qifeng on the concept of homophone, and analyzes the reasons of forming homophone.In the end, the paper analyzes in depth some phenomena and patterns that can help the classifying of homophone in Modern Chinese.
