Research On The Works Of Nigmat Mingjani

There has been a little monographic research on modern Chinese Kazakh literature. Especially, the research on the works of Nigmat Mingjani, the influential author in Kazakh literature, is even less. Although there are some analyses on his works, it is far from enough. Nigmet was an energetic and versatile writer. He had hand in many branches of literary activities. His chief works include: novels, poems, dramas, short stories and many articles and books on Kazakh oral literature, mythology, and Kazakh folklore, and all above is believed to be the most outstanding works in Kazakh literature field. What is more! His studies on Kazakh linguistics are also authoritative. As a historian, He is the pioneer of studying Kazakh history. He was the first ethnic Kazakh who did research on the history of Kazakhs in China. His book—"Kazakh history" has great reputation in the field of Kazakh history studies. In a word, he was a versatile writer, as far as I am concerned, all of them are great classics. This paper deals with all the works of Nigmet Mingjani on the basis of the previous research.This paper consists of five parts. The first part is his biography, mainly about Nigmat Mingjani's career and his achievements. In order to have a vivid description of his life, I have read a lot of his works, had some talks with his previous colleagues, scholars who did research on his works, from whom I have gained valuable information and in July. 2006, I went to his hometown-Toly county in Tarbaghatay prefecture, from where I collected many first hand information on his life. All this helped me to write his unique biography by relating Kazakh linage which never done by other researchers before. Finally I made a positive evaluation of his contribution to the Chinese Kazakh literature.The second part is the analysis of his literary works. I will mainly focus on his novels, short stories, and some poems. Such as, th his short story, "Tiney's eagle" "the reporter of life", the poems, "the silk road", "the flying days" "stand with people", "my honorable sacred mother tongue", the novel "swallow", and the poem "the punishment", which has not yet been published.The third part is on his achievements in linguistics. I will focus on his two linguistic works, "the relationship between Diwan De Logat Turk and modern Kazakh language" and "the introduction of the history of Kazakh language".The fourth part is about his research on folklore. His representative works, "the findings on the history of Kazakh Dastans","on the two hundred Kazakh Dastans among people" and the book "on Kazakh mythology".The fifth part focuses on his contribution on Kazakh history studies. I will make a detailed analysis of his work—"on the history of spreading Islam among Kazakhs", and also give a brief introduction of his masterpiece "Kazakh history". All my comment is based on a lot of positive evaluation of many other famous historians and my personal recognition of his work.
