| Through lots of documents and field survey data,this article systematically exposed the life miracle of Sizhou Sangha("Sizhou Buddha"),who was a West monk in the Tang Dynasty,and the belief of the origins and current situation. It summarized the key to the rise and fall from the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty about Sizhou Sangha belief,and then analized the~rcasons. Sizhou Sangha, benefit to people during the lifetime. After that, he was popular among The Tang and Song Dynasties. He regarded Puguanwang temple in Sizhou as a base, repeated remarkable miracle in several areas. And he was awarded general official, Wen Buddha, Dasheng(in Chinese, we call them) and so on. Through publication of the world, he fulfilled from monk to dover, then into Buddha. This belief had been popular through all classes all over the country. After the flood of Qing Dynasty, the existed belief was serious shocked, so that the position of Sangha belief in Sizhou of orthodox was degraded. With the secularization of Ming and Qing Dynasties, this belief was rejuvened by folk belief in Fujian, Jiangsu and other Provinces. Sizhou Sangha had successfully turned into the folk god"Sizhou Buddha."With regards to the nationality and the name of Sangha,and"Sangha song"written by Libai., this paper discussed the different opinions. More importantly, the whole article outlined the current condition of the belief in the country and abroad, especially in Fujian Province, such as the buddha signal, attribution, position, figure, the buddha birthday, ceremony, the zone, the development trend, etc. In conclusion, the belief was origined in Tang Dynasty, popular in Song Dynasty, developing in Yuan and Ming Dynasty, failed in Qing Dynasty.At last, it turned into folk buddha. It was mainly popular in Fujian and Jiangsu, and then it annihilated gradually. It accepted that the localization was the way to folk and secular of religion. It also advocated the society and concerned departments to protect the precious religious legacy. |
