More and more Chinese start to learn English language in the frequent international communication for the development of the globalization. Inevitably, our Chinese native language plays an important role in the English learning process. Both positive and negative role, which are defined as positive transfer and negative transfer, exist because both common grounds and differences are found between English and Chinese languages. As this is known, this thesis attempts to find some methods to reduce the negative influence of Chinese native language in English learning and to find some effective methods in English leaning.The firsts chapter makes a brief view on the development of the theory of language transfer. The theories are developed in different aspects and evaluated from different point of view in this thesis.The next chapter makes a detailed research on the learners'output which are influenced Chinese native language in English learning. The researches cover all-sided, refers to quite a few aspects, e.g., pronunciation habit, discourse, syntax and even thinking mode and habit of the native speakers of the two languages. Contrastive analysis is applied in the comparison of the two languages in different aspects.In chapter three, according to the research that has done in chapter two, the factors effecting Chinese native language transfer in English learning. Both subjective and external factors influence the transfer of Chinese native language in English learning. Three important subjective factors affecting the transfer of Chinese native language are studied in this chapter, which are the learner's psychology, the learners'cross-cultural awareness and the learner's English proficiency level.Chapter four proposes a number of suggestions on how to deal with Chinese native language transfer and study English with efficiency. On one hand, it stresses on negative transfer avoidance and propose the learners to enhance their own English comprehensive ability, emphasize English cultural information input, encourage the learners to think in English ways, enforce the teachers and learners'understanding of negative transfer and encourage the learners to use proper dictionaries. On the other hand, it is suggested that the learner's motivation should be roused and favorable English learning environment should be provided, also, the learners should be encouraged to correct the errors they made by themselves or by their classmates, thus, the learners can be greatly impressed by the errors and will make less similar errors in their further study. Lastly, practice makes perfect. Practice is always an effective method in learning a skill, and learning English language is no exception.
