With the rapid development of reform and the opening to the outside world, the success of bidding for the Olympic Games, and acceding to WTO, English has been widely used in China as an international language. The coming of information epoch makes the whole world become a"global village", and at the same time, interpretation's international status has been strengthened as a common medium. The need for qualified interpreters is steadily on the increase in China, which is a vigorous country playing a more and more important role on the international stage.Interpretation is not merely the shifting tool between the two languages but the cross-cultural activities which inevitably will encounter the cultural differences and obstacles during the course of communication. Language is a part of culture in which it is formed and developed. Language burdens culture at the same time it embodies the characteristic of culture. During the course of communication interpreters send messages as well as culture. It is of great necessity to enhance the interpreters'cultural awareness. However, analysis and research on how cross-cultural communication teaching combines with interpretation teaching are from surface layer. In present interpretation training, interpreting skills are traditionally viewed as the most important. Nevertheless some students are not adaptive and cannot convey cultural information when communicating with the native speakers, though they have perfect language ability and a good command of the interpreting techniques. Therefore, it is of great necessity that teachers should develop the students' intercultural communicative competence and treat it as the goal of interpretation training.Taking the theory of interpretation, culture, cross-cultural communicative competence and the relationship among them as the foundation, this dissertation reviews the development of culture teaching of home and abroad, analyzing the errors and malpractices of current interpreting teaching methods, aims at cultivating students' cultural awareness as well as cultural creativity in interpretation language teaching and learning. In addition, the dissertation also tries to attach great importance to the students' accuracy and appropriateness in dealing with cultural difficulties in interpretation.
