Besides the general introductions to Mr. Wang Lisan and his music career, this thesis, from the angles of performance and teaching, gives a complete and systematic analysis on Mr. Wang Lisan' s Sonatina in its three movements: In the Sun ; after the New Rain; Dance of Mountain Folks, covering the composing background; composing characteristics; main technical objects', playing skills; major teaching points and practice methods.Mr. Wang Sanli, his family origin is from Jianwei County of Sichuan Prov. and born in Wuhan City in 1933, is one of the well-known musicians of modern China, having made a great contribution to the development of modern Chinese music. Upon the request of The Affiliated Middle School of Shanghai Academy of Music, the Sonatina was composed in 1957 when Mr. Wang was still a student in Shanghai Academy of Music, according to the original plan, the Sonatina should have been used as teaching material for The Affiliated Primary School of The Academy, but it was not in the end due to its too high technical level for children.The Sonatina is consisted of three movements and each one was not titled at the beginning. In 1981, when it was republished by People's Music Publishing House, the three movements were gvien titles in order as above by Mr. Wang himself in order to let the learners to understand better the artistic conception of the work. The three movements describe respectively three different music scenes, each one can be taken as an independent piece. Through the work, the composer expresses his passionate love for nature in his own special creative style. The composing fodder is from Chinese folk songs, by using and combining the traditional tonality structure of Chinese music and modern composing skills, Mr. Wang made successfully the work have both the richful grace of Chinese music and the strong modern music characteristics which was fresh and originative in that time. It is regarded as the earliest successful sonatina in modern China.The whole work is greatly distinctive with full vitality and sharp modern flavor, possessing very high artistic value and aesthetic interests. Analyzing well this work is positively useful to help learners get correct command of playing those piano pieces with Chinese music style. At present, the first movement, In the Sun, is used as testing material for The Ten-level Piano Tests administered by China Music Association. The second and the third ones are seldomly used in teaching and leave us much room to study and explore.
