On Guchui Music In The Southern Dynasties

Guchui (Wind and Percussion ensemble) Music was an important composition of the music culture in the Southern Dynasties. Its development was a critical turning point in the history of Guchui Music. The thesis does a textual research and analysis on the origin of Guchui category, to explain that Guchui Music originated from China in Western Zhou Period. Because of the chaos and turbulence in the early stage of the Southern Dynasties, the court music disappeared largely, Guchui Music had sufficient factors of development and evolvement, and the ritual function built up. The steady development of the society in the middle and late years of the Southern Dynasties, the attention from the Royalty, people's favor and the influence from the minority music caused the change and perfection of Guchui Music in its classification, name, lyric, origination and function, and inspired Guchui Music to come back to the people.
