Leonard B.Meyer, a well-known contemporary American musicology, provides a rich resource for academic research. Indeed sketch the bibliography of Meyer's publications reveals articles in such diverse areas, involved music therapy, aesthetics, ethnomusicology, linguistics, music theory and analysis, music history and music perception, appearing in the major journals of these fields. All this in addition to five influential books that mainly discuss, among other things, the relation between Gestalt psychology and music perception , the role of expectation in creating musical meaning, rhythmic grouping in the tonal music, information theory as musical-theoretical tool, paradigms for melodic structure in tonal music, and a history and theory of musical style.This thesis attempt to analyze Leonard B.Meyer's style theory according to his three classical literatures, Emotion and Meaning in music;Music, The Arts andIdeas-----Patterns and Predictions in Twentieth Century Culture; style and Music:Theory, History, and Ideology. The essay mainly includes three parts: preface, the main of chapters and conclusion. In the preface, I introduce the aim of this writings, stylistic definitions and review the research findings in current status. Chapter one clearly concerned with Meyer's intellectual resources and his theory of style implied meaning. Chapter two will discuss the 'constrain' of style , meanwhile study the active mutual relations between the aesthetic experience and style patters. Chapter three mainly refer to the analysis and generalization of the theory of style analysis. Chapter four will explores the relation between the context logical of history and style transformation. In conclusion, style as the medium of comprehension and communication, which has the reliance on long-established principles of cognition and perception and the importance of cultural learning.
