This thesis mainly analyses the leitmotiv and aesthetic quality of death narration in village novels during May Fourth period. While reviewing the noumenon modality of death narration in village novels during May Fourth period, the thesis studies its various artistic styles as well as the differences and similarities between death narration in village novels during May Fourth period and death narration in the pens of other writer in the approach of comparative study. Through narration, the thesis intends to disclose its thought value, the uniqueness of aesthetic quality and the breakthrough it has compared with the death description in traditional literature. In this way, the thesis finds an angle with which village novels during May Fourth Period can be more deeply and more intensively understood. It makes some sense on the thorough comprehension of villages novels during May Fourth period, the source of village novels, and even the village novels in the whole twentieth century.In Part One, the thesis explains the leitmotiv of death narration in village novels during May Fourth period. Death narration in village novels during May Fourth period reveal the fatuity of the bad habits-"substituting witches for doctors" in the rustic society, the cruelty of the "eating human" customs, the stubbornness of patriarchal clan notion and the peaceful living and death in the rustic society. Among them, the author's severe criticism and profound enlightenment is easily seen.In Part Two, the thesis mainly explores the aesthetic quality of village novels on death narration. The application of tragic, revelation of the beauty of conflicts, the artistic perspective of showing ugliness realizes the breakthrough over traditional happy ending, beauty of harmony and aesthetic perspective, which shows unique aesthetic pursue.On the basis of the former two parts, Part Three makes the internal comparison of death narration in village novels during May Fourth period at first. It can be seen that death narration in village novels during May Fourth Period has various styles instead of sameness. Wang Luyan emphasizes psychology description and mainly writes about fantasy. Xu Qinwen, absorbing the approach of symbolization, endows profound cultural connotation with death narration. In Tai Jingnong's pen, there exists gloominess. The death narration in the Fei Ming' works shows different artistic characteristic compared with Wang Luyan, Xu Qinwen and Tai Jingnong. With poetic style, he lightly describes death. However, his works contain agrestic feelings and humanism similar to other village novelist during May Fourth period.There is no lack of death narration in the works of other novel schools during May Fourth period. Therefore, while making internal comparison, the thesis analyses the reasons why novelists during May Fourth period wrote a lot about death as well and streamlines the major features of death narration by each school. On such a basis, comparing death narration in village novels during May Fourth period with that of other schools at that time, the thesis strives to study death narration in village novels during May Fourth period under broad literary background to find its uniqueness.
