The Translation And Study Of "Zaishu" Character From Jito Of Shirakawa

Shirakawashizuka is a famous Chinese linguist in Japan whose main study field focused on ancient Chinese characters.He accomplishes absorbing the studies of archaeology,folk custom,literature and other subjects into the study of ancient Chinese characters.Starting with studies about inscriptions on oracle bones and bronze,he establishes a new theoretical system with Shirakawa feature which greatly influenced the sinology field both in Japan and China and which will definitely be used as a special reference to the Paleography studies in China.This thesis consists of four main chapters.The first chapter chiefly presents the scholar-life and scholarship of Mr.Shirakawa, summarizes the appraisals of mainland experts to Mr.Shirakawa and introduces the paleography opus of Shirakawa---- "Jito" and the features of "Zaishu Character".The second chapter selects many Zaishu characters with "(?)" shape from "Jito" of Japanese version for systematic translation and study including(?),曰,兄,君,命,若,如,召,各,谷,咎,史,事,使,告,可,名,右,周,啓,唐,商,矞,高,呈,哀,和,古,固,吉,吾,咸,含,合,襄,靈,嚣,舍,害,言,司,啓and other characters.According to the notes made by Shirakawashizuka,we divide them into eight groups in terms of meaning,analyze them one by one and appraise the features as well as the advantages and disadvantages arising from the theory of Zaishu characters.The third chapter ponders the basis of Zaishu theory system and the principal of interpreting words in accordance with the mainstream Chinese traditional sinology theory.We regard that though the Zaishu character theory is of high novelty,there are still some unilateral and subjective limitation in the interpretation of characters with "(?)" shape.It is incomprehensive to define the characters with "(?)" shape only using folklore method.In order to understand the theory basis and guideline of "Jito",we have translated several parts of "autobiographic preface" of the Japanese version into Chinese as the appendix.
