| The source text author and the source text have always played the dominant role in traditional translation studies, while the translator has acted as the servant. Under the guidance of faithfulness and objectivity principles, the comprehensive correspondence between the target language and the source language has been the pursuit of the translator. The translator's role in translation has been neglected for a long time. Since the advent of the cultural turn in translation studies, people have found that the translation process should not be regarded as a simple transference between the source language and the target language; in fact it is a process full of creativity. There has been a growing concern about the importance of the translator. This being the case, the translator's subjectivity has been a matter at issue in the translators'community.This thesis attempts to explore the issue of a translator's subjectivity using relevant modern hermeneutical theories in the west. Hermeneutics is a field of study that explores the issues of understanding and interpreting. The issue of understanding in translation is also an important task of translation research. Hermeneutics can have a guiding effect on translation studies. This thesis expounds the positive effect of the translator's subjectivity in the process of text understanding by using relevant hermeneutical understanding theories. Then this thesis analyzes the components of the translator's subjectivity from different angles. Although the translator's subjective function has been protruded, the establishment of the translator's subjectivity does not contradict with the source text author. This thesis also describes the restriction of the exertion of the translator's subjectivity.This thesis holds that the theory of the translator in traditional translation theories has failed to guide the translator to exert his subjectivity. The analysis of the translator's subjectivity from the hermeneutical perspective will be a better solution.
