In business communication, effective exchanges of business communication depend on business translation. Equivalence in translation, which is linguistically-based translation theory, emphasizes both on the form and meaning of the two languages. As an important figure in translation history, Nida puts forward two kinds of equivalence, namely, formal equivalence and functional equivalence. Actually, theory of translation equivalence is somewhat out of date in the studies of translation, for now translation study has taken a cultural turn.From the perspective of functional equivalence theory, translation emphasizes the equivalence of language receiver's reaction to the message that source language and target language convey. It concerns with the command and use of the two involving languages. Then, from the angle of cross-cultural communication, besides messages themselves, people's reaction to the messages also depends on the culture which the message sender and receiver belong to. Thus, culture influences the end of message, which consequently affects the translation between two languages.This thesis is arranged in the form of five parts. The first part is literature review, from which current level of business translation research at home and abroad is to be clearly reviewed. As the theoretic basis of the thesis, the second part is the introduction and explanation of Nida's functional equivalence theory. Nida emphasizes"first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of style", as well as the degree to which the receptors of the message in the receptors language respond to the message performed in target language should be the same as the degree to which the receptors in the source language respond to the message performed in source language. This thesis only focuses on the latter point held by Nida in his functional equivalence theory. And the relation between the theory and business translation is also to be discussed in this part. Next in order will be the introduction and knowledge about cross-cultural communication. Of course, the connection between it and business translation is to be included as well. In translation theory and practice, how to remove the culture background to transmit meaning from source language to target language is one of the central issues to which people have been paying close attention. To analyze Nida's dynamic equivalence from cultural aspect provides a new way of translation study. The last part, which is the most important part of this thesis, will mainly explain the solution to some business translation problems through the way of combining elements of functional equivalence and culture. To achieve the effect of equivalence between source language receiver and target language receiver, some useful suggestions and frequently employed techniques that emphasize on cross-culture business translation are to be proposed such as choice of words, adjustment and division etc. Lastly, the conclusion summarizes the whole thesis and gives a hint to the future direction of this field.The significance of this thesis lies in the meaningful suggestions induced from the functional equivalence and business cases of cross-cultural translation. The results of the thesis are supposed to be helpful for business activities in real life but not only on paper in theory. The effectiveness of smooth business message exchanges through translation is the goal of this thesis.
