This article probes into the use of the listening metacognitive strategies of the students. To explore the superiority of autonomous listening class under the teaching reform program, a comparative analysis is conducted about the use of the listening metacognitive strategies of the students who take regular listening class and the students who take autonomous listening class. The use of listening metacognitive strategies is investigated in the categories of planning, attention, reflection, regulation and evaluation. The data were collected by a questionnaire, and analyzed by SPSS software. The results of the study show that students applied listening metacognitive strategies generally, but it is insufficient in application of listening metacognitive strategies; the students who take autonomous listening class use listening metacognitive strategies more frequently than the students who take regular listening class; the teaching reform program in North China Electric Power University, which is carried out to give students more opportunity for autonomous learning, promotes the use of listening metacognitive strategy and produces a marked effect on English teaching and learning...
