On The Modal Particles In Xunxian Dialect

With its character to chinese,the application of modal particle is widely involved in the use of Chinese-tebit language (Gao ming-kai,1990).Being a part of grammar,It appears in pragmatic level rather than being in syntax level. The study of modal particle belongs to the field of grammar matter as well as a breakthrouh point for the research of grammar,especially dialectal grammar.The study of dialectal modal particle will help us to better understand its nature and features,discover dialect grammar system's character.Further more,It can provide vivid evidence and proof for the historical research on modal particle.The study of dialectal modal particle has lasted more than 70 years since Mr. Chao,Y. R.'《s北京,苏州,常州语助词的研究》,we are still lack of effort on its system and theory.In fact just like idiom grammar being a system, modal particle is of logic system itself.based on the concrete analyses on all types of modal particles in xunxian dialect , this paper intend to discover their inner relations.This paper first make a brief summary of the currently study of Xunxian dialect.Then,summarize the historic and current status of modal particle.finally discuss all kinds of modal particle in Xunxian dialect in detail.According to tradition,the ending modal particles are divided into 4 categories: the modal particles at the end of discreptive sentence, the modal particles at the end of interrogative sentence,the modal particles at the end of imperative sentence, the modal particles at the end of exclamatory sentence .The modal particles at the end of discreptive sentence are divided into 2 categories: the modal particles at the end of the yes-no interrogative sentence, the modal particles which are not at the end of the yes-no interrogative sentence.There are 5 modal particles in the middle of sentence,which have the same form as those at the end of sentences. In addition,there are also enriched conjunction modal particle,which is rather complicated.Most of individual modal particles can correspond to Mandarin except some special words,such as"家","不咋","散焉",etc. By the analysis of modal particle,we can find centain features in both the meaning and the usage.
