This paper is attempting to probe the cases of omission occurred in the process of simultaneous interpreting (SI), to explain the reasons behind omission in SI, so as to try to provide evidence for the conclusion that omission is an effective interpreting strategy in the process of SI.To translation researchers and real interpreters, omission is not an unfamiliar phenomenon which is universal in human language and plays a very dispensable part in human communication. Omission in human language has attached great attention long time ago and has been in scholars'research scope. Up to the present, the structure and functions of omission on the perspective of syntax and pragmatics have been analyzed comparatively thoroughly.Previously, omission, which was regarded as missing and deletion of information, was more than often viewed as error in the assessment of quality in SI. However, recently it has been argued by some that the "saying it all" strategy may not be successful or even practical in a bilingual communication bridged by an interpreter, which is also recognized by the author who is involved in some SI practice and experience.Starting from the characteristics of the inherent nature of SI and retrospecting opinions on omission of different scholars, the author attempts to summarize her own description of omission and tries to achieve the summing-up that"saying it all"strategy is unnecessary from the aim of communication through the attempting explanation that SI is a bilingual communicative activity with the interpreter as medium-bridge. Through the introduction to Daniel Gile's Effort Model and the different constrains for the interpreter---the multi-task performer in SI, the author attempts to explain the behind reasons of omission in SI. Some specific cases of omission in SI will be surveyed in the observational study, through which the author expects the conclusion that omission is an effective strategy in SI and it should be taken into account and employed positively and appropriately in SI.
