In order to research the relationship between monosyllabic and disyllabic synonyms which contain the same semanteme, we investigate the generality as well as the individuality of these words and observe the result through comparison. We would describe the result subjectively and analyze it objectively. Meanwhile the description would be both synchronic and diachronic. The main aspect of this research would be: 1. to compare the similarities and the differences "monosyllabic and disyllabic synonyms which contain the same semanteme" and give brief explanation about the reason that leads to these similarities and differences; 2. to focus on the research to explain why they would have the synonymous relationship and also to give reasons on the procession in which the disyllabic synonyms took shape diachronically and then offer explanation. It would be four parts:Part One:It would be viewed as an introduction. In this part, it would definite the object and the scope of this research. There would be a general description of the current situation in this field. Finally it would point out the aim and the significance of this research.Part Two:In this part, we would conclude the ways of explaining the meaning of the monosyllabic and disyllabic semantemes in "Xiandai Hanyu Cidian", then we would compare the proportion of each method so that we can be clearer about the relationship of the two. Besides, we would have an induction in terms of the word-form and then calculate the proportion of each form. After that we would probe the origin the wide gap among each form.Part ThreeIn this part we would focus on the synchronic comparison of the syntactic function of the two, both similarities and differences. That includes: the situations when they act as the subject, object, attributive and qualified words. Thus we could find out some differences and give the brief explanation about some certain phenomenon.Part FourThis part would investigate how the synonymous relationship formed between the monosyllabic and disyllabic synonyms. Through this way, we would find out the way and the method that how the monosyllabic words turned to the disyllabic synonyms. This would be the head of this essay.
